As soon as I got to work 「とたん」

We can use とたん when we want to say something happened right after another event.

家いえに出でたとたん、雨あめが降ふりり出だしした
As soon as I left my house, it suddenly started to rain.

Grammar Rule

Aとたん、B.
As soon as A, B.

Where A is in the casual past form (食たべた、行いった、出でた etc).

Note: B must not be a plan or intention of the speaker.

Examples

出社しゅっしゃしたとたん、社長しゃちょに呼よばれた。
As soon as I arrived at the office, I was summoned by the company president.

かれは起おきたとたん、くしゃみをした。
As soon as he woke up, he sneezed.
